Meningitis Vaccination for Freshers
Students aged between 17 to 24 years and starting university are strongly recommended to have a booster Men ACWY vaccination (which has replaced the Meningitis C) if you didn’t receive one in school. This is because it is now known that your immunity to the disease will have decreased and your risk of catching the disease is higher. When you are registered please telephone us on 01162 855300 and arrange an immunisation appointment. Please follow the links below for further information:
MMR Vaccination for Freshers
Students aged between 17 to 24 years and starting university are strongly recommended to have had 2 doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccination. There have been a number of mumps outbreaks, particularly amongst university students over the last couple of years and the best protection from what can potentially be an unpleasant disease is vaccination. Exams and Illness
- Walnut Medical Centre will not charge students of De Montfort University for supplying supporting medical evidence, however students of other educational establishment will be charged for this service.
- Walnut Medical Centre will issue supporting medical evidence for students but normally only for cases where you have sought treatment at the time of an illness or for long-standing medical conditions
- The Practice will not usually issue medical supporting evidence for minor ailments like colds, headaches and stomach upsets.
- On its own a doctor’s note or (i.e. one based on a consultation AFTER you have suffered from an illness, where the medical professional is only able to recount what you have told them about your illness) is unlikely to be sufficient as supporting evidence towards a deferment or extenuating circumstances
- Please see the DMU General Regulations & Procedures affecting Students for further information on deferral of assessment on the grounds of extenuating circumstances
